Driving a private hire car in Ciudad Real: connections with the Ciudad Real and Puertollano high-speed stations, Barajas along the A-4, the province's hospitals, and how each job arrives and is paid

Ciudad Real is the high-speed province: the Ciudad Real and Puertollano stations, on the Madrid to Seville line, put Madrid under an hour away, and a good share of the jobs are taking someone from their village to the station or collecting them off the train. The rest are long transfers to Barajas along the A-4 from the La Mancha of Alcázar and Tomelloso, which has no high-speed rail, and appointments at the hospitals of Ciudad Real, Alcázar, Valdepeñas and Puertollano. Each job reaches your phone agreed with the customer — pickup, destination, time and price — and you accept or decline; on Monday the weekly settlement arrives with every trip, its commission and the full tips. Daimiel to Ciudad Real's high-speed station is 30 km and about 24 min.

Where is the demand in the province of Ciudad Real?

At the two high-speed stations, before the airport. Ciudad Real and Puertollano are on the Madrid to Seville line and the AVE puts Atocha under an hour away, so anyone living in the Campo de Calatrava, in Daimiel, in Almagro or in the Alcudia valley does not drive to Madrid: they drive to the station. The typical job is short — from the village to the station for a train time, or from the station home on arrival — and repeats around the morning and afternoon trains. The capital adds the General University Hospital, at the edge of the city, and the University, with students coming and going at weekends.

The other half of the province is the La Mancha of Alcázar de San Juan, Tomelloso, Campo de Criptana and Socuéllamos, which has no high-speed rail — Alcázar is a conventional rail hub — and looks to Madrid along the A-4 and the Viñedos motorway: that is where the long transfers to Barajas, Atocha and Chamartín come from, and the appointments at Alcázar's Mancha Centro hospital. The route pages publish trips from fifteen origins in the province to the high-speed stations, Barajas, Madrid, the four hospitals, Almagro, the Tablas de Daimiel, Ruidera and Calatrava la Nueva.

What figures do the typical jobs carry?

Those of the route engine, which are what the customer sees before booking and what the driver is paid. The high-speed connections are short: Daimiel to Ciudad Real station, 30 km from 46,99 €; Almagro to Ciudad Real station, 27 km and about 23 min; Valdepeñas to Puertollano station, 97 km. The Barajas ones are long: Tomelloso to the airport, 198 km and about 139 min, from 247,25 €; Ciudad Real to the airport, 220 km from 272,91 €.

A Barajas transfer from Ciudad Real takes half a day there and back, which is why it is chained differently from Toledo or Guadalajara: you accept it when you can return with another job or when the customer has booked a round trip. The hospital jobs with a wait — the patient goes into the appointment and the driver waits or returns when told — are what best fill the mornings in the capital and in Alcázar.

How does a job reach your phone, and what are the rules?

The customer books on the website or in the app with pickup, destination, date and time and sees a fixed price before confirming; the job appears in the driver app with all the details and the amount, and you accept or decline with no penalty. If the operator has bidding on, you can propose a price for open jobs. Once accepted, the app navigates to the pickup, tracks the trip states and generates the trip sheet before departure. At the high-speed stations the pickup is always a customer with a booking, with their train on the job: you cannot wait at the taxi rank or offer the car to people getting off.

The pickup time is the one the customer has paid for; if the train is late, the job carries its number and the app follows it. Non-payment is not the driver's risk: if the customer does not show or the card fails, the job performed is still settled, and late cancellations are paid under the published policy.

What paperwork is needed, and how do you get paid?

A valid driving licence and, with your own vehicle, the VTC authorisation in the holder's name, insurance covering passengers, the roadworthiness test and the registration document; everything is checked before the first job and the platform warns of expiry dates. Castilla-La Mancha does not require a regional VTC driver certificate; the trip sheet and the filing with the Ministry's services register are compulsory before every job and the platform generates them. Jobs ending in Madrid, Córdoba or Jaén are legal under a Castilla-La Mancha authorisation because the origin is in the province; what does not fit is stationing the car to pick up jobs originating outside the region beyond the share the ROTT allows.

Every Monday the weekly settlement arrives with every job, the commission deducted trip by trip and the tips, which go entirely to the driver; cash collected on board is already yours and is deducted from what is paid. With a company car, payroll or a weekly self-billing invoice; with your own authorisation, the customer pays into the driver's Stripe Connect account and the published commission — 15% of each job — is settled automatically. Nobody promises how many jobs there will be in a week in Puertollano; the website's public tools are there to run the numbers with your own expenses. The application is sent from the drivers page or from the app, stating the area and whether you bring a vehicle.

Frequently asked questions

Can you pick someone up at Ciudad Real's high-speed station without a booking?

No. A VTC only performs pre-booked services; at the station the pickup is a customer with a booking and their train on the job. Waiting at the taxi rank or soliciting on the platform is prohibited.

How much is Tomelloso to Barajas, the typical long transfer?

198 km and about 139 min without traffic, from 247,25 € according to the route engine; it is the price the customer sees and on which the commission is calculated.

What if the customer pays in cash?

That money is already the driver's and is deducted from Monday's settlement; it is never claimed separately. Tips go entirely to the driver with no commission.

Is a regional certificate needed to drive a VTC in Ciudad Real?

Castilla-La Mancha does not require one. You need a driving licence and, with your own vehicle, the VTC authorisation, passenger insurance, the roadworthiness test and the registration document; the trip sheet and the register filing are generated by the platform.
